Low Dose Naltrexone
Naltrexone is an oral medication used to control Opioid addiction as well as alcohol abuse. In its FDA approved dose of 50mg it can be used once or twice daily.
Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) is a drug used in many disease states involving the immune system. Its dosing is quite different from the commercially available form. The average dose of Low Dose Naltrexone ranges from 1.5mg at bedtime to 4.5mg at bedtime. This medication must be compounded by your pharmacist.
It has been suggested that LDN works by optimizing immune system functioning by working on important regulators of cell growth and immunity. LDN has been thought to normalize cytokine and interleukin activity, thereby decreasing inflammation. It has also been shown to increase TNF (tumor necrosis factor) as well as T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells. It has been used in various disease states including certain cancers and many autoimmune diseases.
